Young Film Academy, the UK’s leading provider of film education for young people aged 6 to 19 years old, is proud to announce the 2023 10 Shot Film Awards.
The awards recognise filmmaking excellence in UK schools. Since 2008, over 85,000 students have participated in the One Day Film School™ learning all aspects of the filmmaking process from Screenwriting, Fight Choreography and Film History to Camerawork and Editing.
The 10 Shot Film Awards showcase the best 2 minute films produced by groups of students across 125 schools in the UK. Recognising originality combined with technical filmmaking skills, the awards provide a platform to showcase emerging talent and to encourage young people to pursue a career in the British Film Industry.
10 Shot Films may take no longer than 2 hours to produce: 30 mins planning + 90 mins filming and editing.

“This well-crafted short film pays brilliant homage to Sergio Leone Westerns with a
modern spin. The performances are superb, with inventive editing, and dynamic camera
work which helps create real tension and claustrophobia. We were gripped throughout – Congratulations!”
2ND PLACE: Downe House School, “MOVING TOO FAST”

“This film is both moving and hugely entertaining. The actors show real commitment, with
excellent performances and characters that really tug at the heartstrings. The filmmakers
aren’t afraid to go a bit dark, which makes the uplifting finale all the more effective. Excellent work!”
HIGHLY COMMENDED: Bishops Stortford College, “EYE FOR AN EYE”
Judges’ comments:
“This Tarantino-esque revenge film is truly effective storytelling. It starts with a bang
(literally!) and never slows down. The pace, energy and streamlined narrative make for a
great watch. We particularly enjoyed the funeral scene, the quirky camera angles and the soundtrack. Well done!”

WINNER: Bradfield College, “FOOTBALL FRENZY”
Judges’ comments:
“Good sports films are rare, but this outstanding piece of work manages it. Two opposing
sets of characters are introduced in hugely entertaining fashion, revealing their motivations
through actions rather than words, which is great filmmaking. This film is a deserving
winner, and the filmmakers can be incredibly proud of achieving high quality results in such a short time”
2ND PLACE: Notting Hill & Ealing High School, “THE GHOST OF YOU”

“This film is beautifully made, with moving performances. It tells a tragic story with a
cleverly fragmented structure with a devastating twist in the final moments. We loved the
choice of haunting music, the juxtaposition of past and present, and the skeletal hand… a truly impressive, accomplished piece of filmmaking”
HIGHLY COMMENDED: Bedales School, “THE LOST SOUL”
Judges’ comments:
“Terrifying, atmospheric and brutal… also totally compelling and had us glued to the
screen. The filmmakers make fantastic use of the woodland location (always good for
horror films) underscored by a chilling soundtrack. We were very impressed by the
performances, particularly the sinister cult leader and his unwitting prey. The ending is devastating – David Fincher (Se7en) would approve…”

2023 10 Shot Film Awards
In 2023, 125 leading UK schools hosted the One Day Film School™. More than 1000 films were made by over 10,000 Year 7-12 students.
Young Film Academy experts have nominated films in 2 categories (Years 7-9, Years 10-12). 3 films will be selected in each category: Highly Commended, 2nd Place and Winner: Best 10 Shot Film of 2023. Good luck to all the nominees!

ENTRY CRITERIA
10 SHOT FILM: THE RULES
- Films must have 3 x wides, 3 x mediums and 4 close-ups
- The camera must be still when filming
- Films must be 2 minutes or less
- Films must be silent (with music)
- Films must be based on 1 of 5 Classic Storylines
10 SHOT FILM: CLASSIC STORYLINES
- A criminal, someone wants revenge on them
- Someone on the run (maybe innocent) being chased
- True love, an obstacle
- A hero, a villain, an object they both want
- Someone is kidnapped, an attempted rescue
