9 (ONE DAY FILM SCHOOL)

“We were delighted to welcome the Young Film Academy to lead a workshop for our Year 9 pupils. The leaders created a very positive and purposeful atmosphere and the pupils loved the day, were highly engaged throughout and also learned a lot about the technical side of film-making. It was a most worthwhile activity, thank you”

Participating in Film in a Day was an exciting and memorable experience. I especially enjoyed the presentations at the start, as they gave me an exciting insight into how movies are made and what we needed to do.
In our group, I had the role of director, which was both challenging, bit still quite fun. Our silent film displayed the rivalry between two tennis players, where jealousy led to a murder in a matter of time. Despite the lack of dialogue I believe we showed the drama through acting and well-planned shots.
Overall, it was an amazing way to experiment with storytelling and filmmaking. Seeing everyone’s final films was entertaining, and I loved how creative each group was. I would definitely do it again if i could!
It was an incredible experience! We got the opportunity to learn about close – ups, medium shots and wide shots. We then put our skills into practice by creating a short two minute film. It challenged us to work as a team and create a good film, which was not only fun but also helpful in practicing filming and editing. I would recommend this experience to anyone that has the opportunity to do the one day film school. You learn skills such as filming, acting and editing which were invaluable!
This experience help me learn the challenges of filming and how to work around it. I discovered what Directors truly are and now I want to become a director. I thought this opportunity was extraordinary and almost the whole year have never experienced anything like it.
I thought it was great and I got to know a lot of my classmates better. I also understood how to use iMovie better for other projects. It was very informative and educational and I really liked it
I feel that the film day really inspired a lot of people to come out of their comfort zone and explore the beginning interests of film, if gave everyone a chance to explore their talents and even show them off. I found the day to be really engaging and fun, and allowed me to talk to lots of interesting people and strengthen bonds. I really recommend this as it was such a compelling experience i really enjoyed it, and would really like to do it again.
I really enjoyed the film in a day activity since it was such an immersive and creative experience. The instructors were supportive, and it was amazing to see our ideas come to life on screen.
I really enjoyed doing the ‘Film In A Day’!! It was so fun learning about all of the different types of shots used in films and getting to show off some of my film knowledge. Everybody was so kind and helpful and taught us how to make amazing short films. My group and I worked together so well and had many laughs along the way, I enjoyed getting to talk to people from other houses and have an amazing final product at the end of the day. I would really recommend this to anybody, if you are a person who enjoys filming and acting or just somebody who wants to have a fun day!
Film in a day was really fun, i really enjoyed making the films. We made two films, the first one was a practice film, which was just 20 seconds long, and then we made the films for the oscars which were 2 minutes long. It was really challenging for my group, because we had a limited amount of shots we could make, and we couldn’t move the camera. Overall, even though my group didn’t win an Oscar, it was a great experience
It was a very fun experience and I got to work with people I normally wouldn’t work with. Furthermore, we got to learn about different perspectives in which films are recorded and how to make our films more appealing to the audience. Overall, it was a very amusing experience and we all got to learn a lot.
The film day was an exciting and creative challenged, that pushed us past our comfort zones to produce a short film within the afternoon. We had to work as a team and make quick decision thinking whilst following the theme of “Revenge”. Overall everyone produced a film to a high standard and we can all take away many skills from today!
On Sunday, we had the incredible opportunity to take part in the Film in a Day activity—a fast-paced, creative challenge that brought out the filmmakers in all of us! Split into ten groups, we were tasked with creating a two-minute silent film using only ten camera shots and featuring a teacher in some way. Armed with iPads and a booklet, we scoured the school for props and locations, turning everyday spaces into cinematic sets.
Our group (Group 9) had an absolute blast, even managing to convince Miss T to star in our film—including a dramatic (and very safe!) moment where she pretended to run over one of our actors! The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and creativity, as we experimented with different camera angles and storytelling techniques to bring our vision to life.
The excitement continued into the afternoon as we all gathered in the auditorium for our very own Oscars ceremony, celebrating the best films, actors, staff collaborations, and music. Although our group didn’t take home a prize, the experience itself was truly rewarding, and we left with amazing memories and a newfound appreciation for filmmaking.
I absolutely loved the ‘Film in a Day’ course. I thought it was such an amazing way to be introduced into the world of film and it was so interesting and informative! Thank you to the company!
