12 & 13 (ONE DAY FILM SCHOOL)

“We had A One Day Film School with our Year 12s and 13s for a bonding day, and it was a resounding success. The girls had a great time, working between age groups on producing some incredibly creative and funny 10 shot films. It was a great opportunity for forging new friendships in a relaxed and positive atmosphere. I know I will be using One Day Film School again” – richard pearce, HEAD OF 6TH FORM

This was my first time participating in a one day film school workshop and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! From learning how to throw an effective punch on camera, to learning the different types of camera shots, it gave me a really great insight into the world of film and TV and how we sometimes blindly watch A film or program, without fully appreciating all of the effort, time, and money that people put into making these blockbusters on the screen. I really appreciated the freedom and collaboration that was given to us as year 12 and 13 students, allowing us to work as a team, getting to know our peers better, outside of the classroom! I will fully remember this workshop and each time I watch a film or program from now on, I will fully appreciate the all of the hard work that goes into every single second of tv. Thank you so much!

Learning the basics of how to frame shots, throw a fake punch and the behind the scenes of editing was a really fun experience and was a brilliant bonding activity because we had to adapt to time pressured situiation. With support we were able to produce short films which were fun to make and even more fun to watch as a group, serving as a great bonding activity. We were also able to learn a bit about film history and other facts, like how hollywood films generally have a frame rate of 24 even though technology has developed far beyond that.

In my time at the school I have gotten to experience the one day film school one or two time prior to my most recent which was used as activity for my year, year 12, and year 13 to bond as a sixth from. Personally I found it very enjoyable as I am a cineaphile myself and as a person who is interested in possibly going into the film industry as someone behind the scenes. I mostly enjoyed the first half of the day where we weren’t filming short films and learning about film history and stunt fighting as I thought it was most interesting. Also this time around i found the filming not as enjoyable due to the fact that I think everyone struggled with the time as we were made to make films over lunch. However I do think that it did work as a bonding activity and forging some random friendships between year groups and I look forward to the next time if there is one!

The day was packed full of fun and learning opportunities that especially helped our form group bond. Learning how to stage fight was an enjoyable lesson and i particularly enjoyed (fake) punching my friends! The films we created felt high quality thanks to the morning of examples and hands-on teaching. Despite not winning an award myself, watching everyone’s films at the end of the day and cheering each other on was an experience I won’t forget.
